This album is a collection of central West Virginia tunes from the playing of Ernie Carpenter. It was recorded live and off the cuff in and around North River Mills, West Virginia and is proudly presented here flaws and all. The intention of this series of albums is to present our musical heritage in as stripped down a form as possible. Recording decisions were made to make this reminiscent of a field recording rather than a polished studio work. The tunes start out with a skeleton of the melody and gradually bloom into new sonic and melodic variations. This work is meant to both preserve and challenge our rich regional musical traditions. We hope you will enjoy the tunes, and by hearing these tunes stripped down to their most raw forms you might find a new way to engage with these timeless tunes.
